Auckland Tower, located in Bishop Auckland, offers visitors the opportunity to climb and enjoy panoramic views of the town and the Bishop’s Palace, the historical residence of the Bishop of Durham (for free).
The Auckland Project has seen a flurry of activity recently, from the commencement of Kynren’s ninth season to the unveiling of the new Walled Garden. In this edition of ‘Community Matters,’ I discuss with Jane Ruffer, Jonathan Ruffer’s wife, (Jonathan, the entrepreneur behind The Auckland Project), the tower’s latest art installations.
I also converse with James Gibbs, the artist behind the nine new panels that grace the tower, which narrate the history of Bishop Auckland from Roman times to the present, incorporating elements from the Castle grounds and the walled garden’s produce.
Furthermore, I delve into the inspiration behind some of the panels with James and explore the extensive research he invested in each artwork.
In my view, it’s a compelling listen – enjoy!
