Visitors to Auckland Castle will be able to have a go at heritage skills at a free event this month.
The open day will allow people to see work being carried out in the walled garden, meet skilled craftspeople and have a go at a range of skills including lime pointing and traditional roofing.
A ‘hard hat tour’ with archaeologist Harry Beamish will also take visitors through the history of the walled garden and what was grown there according to records.
“Usually when works get done to historic buildings the public are usually excluded and can’t see what’s going on,” explained Andie Harris.
“We’re throwing the gates open of the walled garden on the 28th, and allowing people to come in and have a go at some of the traditional craft skills that are being undertaken in the walled garden to restore it back to its former glory.”
The heritage skills event is from 10am to 4pm on Wednesday, 28th October.
The event has been organised with Team Force Restoration. For more information contact 01388 743 797 or enquiries@aucklandcastle.org.
