A store in St Helen Auckland specialising in plastic products and building materials has held an open day to mark its expansion into a third unit.
The Plastic Centre, based in St Helen Industrial Estate, is now able to hold more stock at the premises. Customers include builders, roofers, bathroom installers and plumbers, as well as the public working on their own DIY projects.
The business has been established for around 30 years and has several branches, with the St Helen Auckland branch being the flagship in the North East.
The company manufactures its own products including pipes, gutters and windows in the UK. It is the largest supplier of PVC products in the area.
Since the branch opened in St Helen Auckland over 10 years ago the staff have seen increased interest in items like bathroom cladding, which is becoming a popular alternative to tiling in bathrooms and showers. The store has recently acquired stock for acoustic walls which is currently popular too.
During the open day on Friday new and existing customers, including local tradespeople working on roofing and bathroom projects in the area, were able to see the expanded site and find out more about the products which are now being held in stock.
The company aims to provide a ‘one stop shop’ for plastic products and building materials.
“The bathroom cladding has really taken off this last two or three years,” says Gary, the manager at the branch.
“We manufacture everything ourselves – it’s a British product. We are really proud of the product and it’s selling really well.”
Gary says that the impact of expansion is massive for the branch.
“We can carry so much more stock now. It’s ninety-nine percent now ‘yes, we’ve got it, yes, it’s in stock, yes, it’s on site’ and they can take it away straight away.”
