A joint open day by local fire and police services has been held in Spennymoor.
Crowds gathered for demonstrations from the fire and rescue service, including a narrated scenario where a driver was extracted from a car. Durham Police demonstrated crime scene investigation techniques alongside police dogs Jet and Ben.
“The police and fire service are both community focused organisations,” said Graham Metcalfe from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service.
“A large part of what we do is community safety, it’s prevention activity. We actually want to stop any incident, along with fire and road accidents, from happening in the first place. Part of that is education.”
Crime scene investigators from Durham Police also demonstrated the tools and techniques used to gather forensic evidence.
