A new youth theatre has been launched in Bishop Auckland.
The new theatre group will be open to local participants aged 8 to 18, and held every Thursday from 4pm to 5.30pm at Bishop Barrington School.
Members are working towards a summer production of Bugsy Malone, as well as a showcase this spring. The new group are working with Backscratch Theatre to put on the performance in April, marking 150 years of the Northern League.
“I think it’s something definitely people should get really involved in. It’s a really good opportunity not only to meet new friends and have a lot of fun, but it opens up opportunities for different things. There’s the art awards and trips,” said Lucy, one of the participants.
Youth theatre group members will be able to gain tuition and experience in the expressive arts. Every week workshops will be held exploring dance, drama and music with a view to members experiencing something they’ve yet had the opportunity to.
“It’s a chance to make friends, feel confident about themselves and show Bishop Auckland what they’re capable of – show their talent, showcase themselves,” explained Kayleigh, a teacher at Bishop Barrington School.
The theatre is also looking for members to work behind the scenes.
More information is available from the group’s Facebook page and Twitter account.
