Staff from a local supermarket have visited Cockfield Nursery School to celebrate the launch of Active Kids.
Sainsbury’s colleagues joined the nursery children in the school hall with equipment worth £250, which has been donated. The vouchers can be collected until Tuesday, 31st May and taken to nurseries, schools, Scout and Guide groups and Sports clubs.
Store manager Tom Phillipson said “Our colleagues are really looking forward to getting behind this year’s Active Kids campaign with Bishop Auckland customers. It was great to be able to kick start our launch of Active Kids this year with Cockfield Nursery. We hope this year’s equipment will make a difference to the lives of school children in Bishop Auckland”.
Mrs Judith Cowley from Cockfield Nursery said “The Active Kids equipment is a colourful child friendly resource which will support the physical development of children in the early years, and we thank Sainsbury’s for the donation of the equipment.”
This year’s Active Kids campaign sees two new ambassadors for the scheme, Junior British record holder and sprinting sensation Jodie Williams and Beijing Paralympic Games swimming champion Ellie Simmonds. Jodie and Ellie will help raise awareness of the scheme.
Customers are able to collect vouchers from Wednesday 9th February until Tuesday 31st May. Active Kids Manager Carly Munday hopes this year’s campaign will encourage even more nurseries, schools, Scout and Guide groups and sports clubs in Bishop Auckland to sign-up to the campaign. She said: “For seven years, Active Kids has helped children in County Durham understand the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. Last year, we reached a huge milestone in donating over £100 million worth of equipment since Active Kids launched in 2005. This year, with customers support, we can continue to help make a positive difference to children’s lives, both inside and outside the classroom”.
